Evans VP Volksplane VH-DAV

William Evans, after a successful and long career as an aeronautical engineer in the US aircraft design and construction industry, decided to design his own aircraft for home builders. Design work on what became the Volksplane was completed between 1966 and 1968, with a successful first flight in September 1968.
The Evans VP-1 was designed to be probably the most inexpensive and simple home built aircraft available. In the US and internationally, it has become very popular as an easy to build and fly aircraft with amateur builders, and seat of the pants pilots.
It has also played its part in fostering the home built market within the US EAA and elsewhere.
A single seat low wing monoplane of wooden construction with the only metal parts being the control column and the elevator trim tab, it has a tailwheel undercarriage and is powered with a converted Volkswagen 40hp air cooled engine, and is designed to be towable on its own wheels. To date some 6,000 sets of plans have been sold by the distributor of the Evans product.
The Museum's locally built Volksplane, a PL-1A, was donated in 2015, and is currently in storage.
